Graduated from the Berlin-Schoneweide Acting Studio. In 1965-1976 he was an actor in the "Volksbuhne" theater in Berlin, in 1977-1997 he was an actor in the famous "Berliner Ensemble" .
He made his debut in the comedy film Love Confusion "(1959).
In the 1960s-1980s, he was a leading actor in the DEFA film studio. In the 1980s-1990s, he starred mainly on TV.
Best roles - Sepp Gomulka in the film "The Adventures of Werner Holt" (1965), King Frederick II in the TV series "Sachsens Glanz und Preu?ens Gloria" (1985-1987) .
Buried in the Dorotheenstadtischen Friedhof cemetery in Berlin.
