A talented director and screenwriter Sergei Parajanov is from Tiflis. In 1924, on January 9, he was born into the family of a hereditary antiquarian. The father hoped that his son would continue the family traditions, but after school, Sergei entered the railway institute. After studying for two semesters, Sergei Parajanov dropped out of the university and successfully passed the entrance exams to the Tbilisi Conservatory (vocal class). In 1945 he made out a transfer to the Moscow Conservatory, and a year later he entered the VGIK in parallel.
Immediately after graduation, the young director is sent to the Kiev Film Studio, where he first works as an assistant director, and later he takes pictures himself. Later there were documentaries Natalia Uzhviy, Dumka and Golden Hands. World fame for Sergei Iosifovich was brought by the film adaptation of M. Critics called this film a monument to the Hutsul culture, so vividly and deeply the director managed to feel and convey Western Ukrainian traditions and customs. After Parajanov shot the film The Color of Pomegranate at the Tbilisi Film Studio, but the picture was withdrawn from the box office a few months after the premiere. and the director himself was arrested. To stop his participation in anti-Bolshevik actions, S. Parajanov was tried on a fabricated denunciation under an article for sodomy and sentenced to five years in prison. Thanks to the unfolding campaign for the defense of Parajanov, he was released in 1977, but without the right to reside in Ukraine. Ashik-Kerib filmed his last films Legend of the Sumar Fortress in Georgia.
Over the years of his activity, S. Parajanov wrote more than ten screenplays, and also created many wonderful collages and drawings. How many years Sergei Parajanov devoted to cinema, but he did not manage to finish the last work. Death interrupted the shooting of the film Confession. The great maestro died in July 1990.
