Leonid Lukov - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips.
May 2, 1909, Mariupol, Russian Empire - April 24, 1963, Leningrad, RSFSR, USSR.
Soviet film director, screenwriter. Honored Artist of the Uzbek SSR (1942). People's Artist of the RSFSR (1957) .
In 1928 he graduated from the workers' school. He was a correspondent for the newspapers "Nasha Pravda", "Kochegarka", "Komsomolets Ukrainy". Organizer of the studio "Kinorabmol" (Kharkov), in which he shot a cycle of five documentaries "My Motherland is the Komsomol". In 1930-1941 he was a director of the Kiev Film Studio, in 1941-1943 - the Tashkent Film Studio, since 1943 - the Gorky Film Studio. The creative life of Leonid Lukov is dramatic. Absolute recognition of many of his paintings by the audience, their disinterested love for the heroes of "Big Life", "Alexander Parkhomenko", "Two Fighters", "Different Destinies". The song expressions of the characters in these films are still unforgettable among the audience. On the other hand, there is the amazing indifference of film experts! Lukov's story with the second series of "Big Life", dedicated to the theme of post-war reconstruction, brought many troubles. The film received devastating criticism. A special resolution of the Central Committee of the party of September 4, 1946 "On the movie" Big Life "was issued, where, in particular," a primitive depiction of all kinds of personal experiences and everyday scenes "was noted. Meanwhile, Lukov's cinematography was just strong with his personal author's intonation, the trusting feelings of the characters. The second, post-war half of Lukov's career was not so successful. The director never won such unconditional victories as "Two Soldiers". The hero of the film "Private Alexander Matrosov" (artist A. Ignatiev) turned out to be sadly schematic. In Donetsk Miners, dedicated to the introduction of advanced technology in the mines of Donbass, there are pieces associated with the life of the old mine. Here, the "everyday writer" Lukov, on his own territory, paints the miner's life harshly, precisely, realistically. But all this is obscured by the decoration of future victories. The melodrama “Different Fates” turned out to be overly edifying, although it won great recognition from the audience.
The last film by Leonid Lukov, already completed by Ilya Gurin and Vladimir Berenshtein, was the adaptation of the popular novel by Yuri German “One Year”, where the young Kirill Lavrov played a repentant criminal. The film "Believe me, people" became another box-office victory of Leonid Lukov, which overtook him after his death. Grateful spectators, as it were, sent a declaration of love after the departed master ...
The director died on the set of Believe Me, People. He was buried at the Novodevichye cemetery in Moscow.
