Paradoxically, Nikulin's post-war efforts to get into theatrical universities ended in nothing. In 1958, the first film with Yuri Nikulin appeared - the musical tape Girl with a Guitar, in which Nikulin played the inimitable role of a pyrotechnic. Literally a year later, the public saw him in the role of Klyachkin from the comedy Unyielding.

In 1961, a short film was released The Dog Watchdog and an unusual cross, in parallel with which one of the most popular images of Nikulin was born - the delinquent Goonies, who made up a magnificent trio with the characters of Vitsin and Morgunov. In this image, Nikulin appeared before moviegoers in the film Moonshiners, in the film Operation Y, in the film Prisoner of the Caucasus, as well as in the film Seven Old Men and One Girl. Semyon Semenovich Gorbunkov from the movie The Diamond Hand became a no less beloved character of Nikulin.

Despite the well-deserved role of the master of comedy art, the roles of Yuri Nikulin are distinguished by a variety of characters. No less brilliantly, the actor coped with dramatic and deeply psychological roles.
