May 1, 1899, Mytishchi, Moscow Region - December 27, 1986.
In the 1920s, Nikolai Yudin - a native of a working-class family, a boy-seller in a Moscow store, a Red Guard district, then a student of Proletkult and an artist of a drama troupe on the Southern Front, again a student and artist of the First Workers' Theater of Proletkult - voted for admission to the studio of Ivan Pyryev , Grigory Alexandrov, Maxim Straukh ... This honor and trust was awarded to him as the best student of such magnificent masters as Litovtseva, Chekhov, Dikiy, Birman, Smyshlyaeva, Volkonsky; they were his partners in the performances: "The Death of Hope", "Krasnaya Pravda", "Mexican", "Power", "Bruski", "First Horse". Do not count the main and secondary roles played by N. Yudin in those years at the Central Arena of Proletarian Creativity, in the Moscow Regional Ballet Company, the First Workers' Theater of Proletkult, the collective farm-state farm theater of Siberia in the 30s, and since 1945 in the Moscow Drama theater (now the Theater on Malaya Bronnaya). Basically, these were sharp-character, sometimes grotesque, brightly comedic roles, in each of them, judging by the surviving reviews and reviews, the artist was unusually truthful and expressive, carried a hot emotional charge, high civic pathos to the audience. Perhaps it was these acting qualities of Nikolai Yudin that were appreciated by filmmakers, it is possible that Sergei Eisenstein, who began as an artist in the Proletkult theater, “infected” him with an ineradicable love for a new art form, but one way or another, soon N.L. Yudin takes part in the filming of the famous Eisenstein's "Strike" and is invited to the films "Sailors Defend the Motherland" and "Graceful Life". ... The actor carefully takes out a photograph from the folder, on it are young, strong, smiling guys in vests - these are Nikolai Yudin and Boris Tenin. - In "Graceful Life" was one of my first big roles in cinema, - recalls Nikolai Leonidovich. - She was accepted, assessed as good luck. Having inspired me, she nevertheless imperiously demanded constant work on herself, and since then - believe me, I am not speaking for the sake of a catchphrase - work and training, training and work are my constant companions, although I already wow! - the artist smiles ... The entire creative life of N.L. Yudina is associated with Moscow film studios - in the 30s these were roles in the films: "Sailors Defend the Motherland" and "Foundling", "Night in September" and "Salavat Yulaev", "Virgin Soil Upturned" and "Girl with Character"; in the 40s: "Mashenka" and "First Horse"; in the 50s: "The Captain's Daughter", "Vasily Surikov", "Song of Koltsov"; in the 60s: “Russian souvenir” and “Peace to the incoming”, “Mother's heart” and “Woman's kingdom”, “No password needed”, “The Karamazov brothers” and “Director” and, finally, “Run”, “Mortal enemy ”,“ Sibiryachka ”,“ Nadezhda ”. High professionalism, a wealth of experience, a storehouse of knowledge, a living history of pre-veteran cinema - this is what N.L. Yudin. Internal discipline, a wealth of imagination and every second readiness to perform the most difficult directing and camera tasks - this is also Yudin. Selfless devotion to cinema, a truly youthful love for it, wise reasoning about the ways of its further development and the devotion of all strength, knowledge and experience to a favorite cause, great social work - such is the communist Yudin. Enviable energy, a sense of camaraderie, optimism, an ineradicable sense of humor - and this is Nikolai Leonidovich Yudin. For about four months we worked with him in the film "Destiny", where an old actor, respected by the entire film crew, plays the role of Makar's grandfather. The shooting has come to an end - and Nikolai Leonidovich is going to Lviv, where the film "Unexpected Joys" is being shot - I will play the make-up artist of a Russian movie star, - says N.L. Yudin. - I am worried, you know ... A film about the dawn of Russian cinema. It's about me too ...
