Charles Burling was born on April 30, 1958 in Saint-Mande, France. His father was a doctor and his mother was an English teacher.

At the age of 15, Berling and his brother first appeared on stage. They played in the theater at the Lyceum, in which Charles studied. After graduating from the Lyceum, the young actor entered the Brussels Theater Institute. Having gained experience, in 1982 Charles tried to act in films, but the result did not satisfy him. Subsequently, the actor gives himself to the theater for many years.

During the 9 years spent in the theater, the audience saw the roles of Charles Berling in the plays of Lorca, Pinter, Schnitzler, Genet, and also appreciated his own productions.

Charles Burling was twice nominated for the Cesar Prize (for his roles in the films Boredom (1998) and Sentimental Fate (2000)).

In 1998 Charles directed the first short film called The Bell. In the same year he founded his own production company.
