Iekhiel-Leib Arievich Fainzilberg - this is the name given to the future Soviet satirist at birth, who became known under the pseudonym Ilya Ilf. He was born in the fall of 1897 into a Jewish family. He had two older brothers and one younger one. After graduating from technical school in 1913, he began his career. First I started it in a drafting bureau, then - at a telephone exchange and at a military plant.
He started working in humorous magazines after the revolution. First as an accountant, later as a journalist, and soon as an editor. Ilya Ilf was also a member of the union of poets in Odessa.
In 1923, the writer-journalist moved to Moscow. He wrote humorous and satirical materials for the Moscow newspaper "Gudok". The employee of the same publication was Evgeny Petrov. It was the co-authorship that made the two writers famous. Their joint work resulted in the inimitable satirical novel-feuilleton "The Twelve Chairs", written in 1927. Soon Ilf was fired from Gudok. Petrov left the newspaper after him. Together they began to work in the new magazine "Chudak" and continued their joint literary activity, which ended in 1937 with the death of Ilf from tuberculosis, diagnosed to Ilya Ilf 15 years ago - in the early 1920s.
In addition to journalism and writing, Ilya Arnoldovich was fond of photography. A book-photo album with his photographs was published many years after the death of the author - in 2002.
