Russian theater and film actress Maria Kasparovna Yarotskaya hails from Saratov, where she was born in 1883, November 18, in the family of a political exile. When Maria was still young, her father died, and her mother had to make a living by sewing and preparing meals. After graduating from school, Maria Yarotskaya continued her studies at the Bogolyubsky School of Painting, working at the same time as a home teacher. Wanting to become an actress, the girl began to take private lessons from the Saratov actor Stroitelev. During her first tour to Kherson, she met the playwright Antimonov and got married. For several seasons the actress had to play in various provincial theaters, and in 1908 she and her husband came to St. Petersburg, where they created their own theater of parodies "Crooked Mirror". Later in the life of M. Yarotskaya there were theaters in Pokrovskoe (1919-1920), again in her native Saratov (1920-1923), the Theater of Satire in Moscow (1924-1941), and since 1945 she has been an actress at the Theater-Studio of Film Actor.

Director Abram Room brought Maria Kasparovna to the cinema, inviting her to star in the role of a nurse in the tragicomedy Third Meshchanskaya (1927). After that, the actress began to actively act in films, and films with Maria Yarotskaya The Last Night (1937), Light over Russia (1948), The Tale of a Forest Giant (1954), Steep Hills (1956) and others were released. For the most part, the actress played secondary and episodic roles of kind and lovely women who have the wisdom of life, radiate home warmth and comfort. Such were her heroines Nina Kapitonovna in the film Two Captains, the mother of the Young Guard Sergei Tyulenin in the Young Guard, Vary's mother in the Beloved Girl.

The last film with Maria Yarotskaya was directed by V. Levin. It was the melodrama A Tale of First Love, which premiered in 1957.

The actress died in 1968 and is buried in Moscow.
