Nikolai Trofimov, the future People's Artist of the USSR, was born in a family of workers on January 21, 1920 in Sevastopol. From the very childhood he participated in school sketches, and during recess he entertained his classmates with funny jokes. First appeared in the production of Uncle Tom's Cabin (1934). After graduation, he left for Leningrad and entered the course for Boris Zone at the Theater Institute. Ostrovsky in 1934. The Second World War found the aspiring actor on the verge of a starting career. As soon as Nikolai graduated from the institute, he was taken to serve in the Navy, where he served as a soloist of the Central Ensemble of the Navy, later worked as an actor in the theater of the Baltic Fleet, and performed in the Dunaevsky Five Seas ensemble. After the long-awaited demobilization, Nikolai Nikolayevich came to work at the Comedy Theater in Leningrad in 1946. Here a dream came true - the artist was entrusted with the first leading role in the comedy performance Journey of Perishon. Later there were star roles in the Inspector General and the Cherry Orchard, for which he received recognition and love from the viewer.

Having played more than 30 roles, Trofimov got tired of the fact that in his arsenal there were only comedies, he wanted something new, dramatic. And in 1964 the actor passed to A. Tovstonogov - the head of the Bolshoi Drama Theater named after I. Gorky. The years of work brought many creative take-offs that have become the actor's calling cards. Nikolai Trofimov played the most significant roles in the plays Three Sisters (1965), The Idiot (1966), Bourgeois (1971), Uncle Vanya (1982). The works of Nikolai Nikolaevich in cinema also received positive reviews from critics. The artist's filmography includes more than 70 films, and the actor began acting in films almost simultaneously with his work in theaters. But there are films with the participation of Nikolai Trofimov, which are still being reviewed by lovers of good Soviet comedies. These are the inimitable masterpieces Striped Flight (1961) and The Diamond Arm, Trembita (1968). For the past 10 years, the artist has taught acting.

Nikolai Nikolayevich's last appearance on the stage took place on his 85th birthday with the crown role of Mr. Pickwick in the play The Pickvin Club. Nikolai Trofimov was married twice. With his first wife Tatyana Grigorievna he lived for 56 years in a happy marriage, unfortunately, she died. He lived with his second wife Marianna Iosifovna until the end of his days. They have a joint daughter, Natalia, who lives in Italy. The actor died on November 7, 2005 in St. Petersburg.
