The famous artist, originally from Ukraine (Kiev region), was born on October 20, 1889 in the village of Kashperivka. The daughter of the actors of the troupe M. L. Kropivnitsky, she inherited their acting talent and interest in the theater. Lydia Matsievskaya, having graduated from the history faculty of the Higher Courses for Women in Odessa, first worked as a teacher in a gymnasium until 1916, while performing in the troupe of the People's Sobriety Society and simply participating in various performances. She did not miss a single theatrical event, went on tour of the Maly Theater, performances where Shalyapin and Sobinov participated, admired the play of Vera Komissarzhevskaya and Zankovetskaya, claiming later that it was they who inspired her to theatrical art. In 1921, she began working in the agitation group of the Odessa Department of Political Education, and four years later she already became an actress of the Odessa Ukrainian State Drama Theater. It was there that Lydia Vladimirovna fully showed her talent, playing colorful comedic roles. Fully getting used to the characters, the roles of Lydia Matsievskaya remained so special, bright and inimitable. These are Ganna staged by Karpenko-Kary Bestalannaya and Dulskaya in Morali of Lady Dulskaya, Khivrya from Sorochinskaya Fair, Limerikh in Za two hares, Bochkarev in Anton Krechet and this is not the whole list. After Lydia got married, changing her surname to Morinets, she also tried to get a musical education by entering the vocal department at the conservatory. However, the First World War and the revolution did not allow her to finish her studies, and she returned again to the Free Theater in Odessa and to the traveling Rabseltheater. In the thirties, the actress reveals herself in a new way, creating classical images of Ukrainian playwrights, and performs on the stage, reading satirical texts of the work of Ostap Vishnya and Stepan Oleinik. Even during the war years, she performed with front-line concert brigades in front of the soldiers, raising their spirits.

Films with Lydia Matsievskaya have preserved her vivid image and deep acting. This is Borislav Laughs, filmed in 1927, and Shadow at Pierce in 1955. In the same year, on December 24, Lydia Matsievskaya passed away.
