The film was about the independence of artists from the authorities, about the destruction of artists by the authorities. But it was a fairy tale. The film was released in a limited edition, was re-edited, changed the title to "Christ has landed in Grodno" and successfully went into the trash. Out of despair, Bychkov left for Moscow. The picture, distorted by the editing, fell on the director's fate as a heavy burden. During the years of perestroika, he was allowed to return the author's editing - the film's materials were preserved by the film's editor Veta Kolyadenko - and the author's name. At "Belarusfilm" Bychkov was welcomed with open arms, but it was not possible to reach the level of "City of Masters" and "Property of the Republic". In the spring of 2004, he came to Moscow to visit his son and granddaughters. On April 24, after visiting the cemetery where his parents were buried, Vladimir Sergeevich returned to his son's house, sat down in a chair and died. He died light and easy. His cinema was also light and bright - very author's and very underestimated.
