Rudik Hovsepyan began filming at the end of the seventies. His first film was the four-part series Gypsy, in which the main roles were played by Klara Luchko and Mihai Volontir. The film was directed by Alexander Blank, who was already famous for the children's film Timur and his team. The series Gypsy, in which Rudik Hovsepyan played a friend of the protagonist, the Gypsy Budulai, was very popular in the USSR. It is an adaptation of the novel by Anatoly Kalinin about the tragic fate of the gypsy Budulai, who lost his wife and child during the Great Patriotic War. He returns to the village and learns that his son is alive, and a Russian woman named Klavdia became his adoptive mother. However, on the way to family happiness, the Roma are going through serious shocks. Who does not tolerate injustice, Budulai becomes a victim of criminals and almost dies, never reaching his native village. The film was directed at the Odessa Film Studio in 1979.
