Born on July 22, 1962 in Frunze, Kyrgyz SSR.
He spent his childhood and school years in Yekaterinburg.
Studied at the Sverdlovsk Theater School, workshop of A.L. Sokolov (1979-1981, did not graduate).
Graduated from the acting department of VGIK (1986, workshop of Sergei Gerasimov and Tamara Makarova), directing department (1990, workshop of Peter Todorovsky).
Produced films of his wife, director Larisa Sadilova "Happy Birthday" (1998), "With Love, Lilya" (2002), which have collected many cinematic prizes.
Gennady Sidorov came to real fame in 2003 after his film "The Old Women", which caused a wide response.
He passed away on the morning of June 18, 2011 from a heart attack in Moscow.
