Outstanding Soviet film director and screenwriter.
Born March 13, 1906 in Olviopol (now Pervomaisk, Ukraine).
After graduating from the theater school in Odessa, he worked as an actor and director in theaters in Arkhangelsk, Rostov-on-Don, Baku, and at the Moscow Theater of the Revolution.
After graduating from the directing department of GITIS in 1934, and then from the Film Academy at the GIK (course of Sergei Eisenstein), he independently directed the film The Bear.
Subsequently, Annensky repeatedly turned to film adaptations of the works of A.P. Chekhov, and each picture became an event in Russian cinema - "Man in a Case", "Wedding", "Anna on the Neck", worked a lot in the field of adaptation of the Russian literary classics - "Princess Mary" ( according to M. Yu. Lermontov) and others, shot tapes on a modern theme - "Ekaterina Voronina" and others.
Isidor Annensky is the author of scripts for almost all of his paintings. The tapes of the screenwriter and film director Isidor Annensky have forever entered the golden fund of Soviet Russian cinema, his work is described in all encyclopedic publications on cinema, materials about him are kept in the Museum of Cinema in Moscow.
He wrote the autobiographical book "In theater and cinema" (Moscow; publ. BPSK, 1974) (a copy is kept in the State Russian Library (formerly Lenin) in Moscow. He gave a course of lectures at the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors.
For his services in the field of cinematography, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Russia.
He passed away on May 2, 1977 in Moscow. He was buried in the first section of the Troyekurovsky cemetery in the capital.
