Honored Artist of the RSFSR Nikolai Lukyanovich Dupak is from Ukraine, where he was born in the village of Starobeshevo, Donetsk region in 1921, on October 5. He graduated from three courses at the Rostov Theater School and the Moscow Opera and Drama Studio, as well as the Theater Institute in Kiev.

On the first day of the war, Nikolai Dupak, along with other actors, volunteered for the front, served as a cavalryman, was wounded three times, and in 1943 he left the army with a second group disability. He was awarded with military medals and orders.

In 1944 he came to the theater. Stanislavsky, where he worked as an actor and director until 1963. In 1963 N. Dupak was appointed director of the renowned Taganka Theater. Then the theater did not yet have such a name, it was invented by Dupak.

The actor first came to the cinema before the war, when Nikolai was only 19 years old. He was invited by director A. Dovzhenko to star in the role of Andrey in the film Taras Bulba, but the war changed plans. In 1944, A. Dovzhenko again found the actor and offered him the role of a tanker in his new historical film Ukraine on Fire. But Stalin did not approve of the script and the film was not accepted for production. Therefore, the first film role of N. Dupak was the image of Lieutenant Sani Sannikov in the film One Night (1944). And later, films with Nikolai Dupak, Friends and Comrades (1959), Iron Stream (1967), Only Three Weeks (1971), The Only One (1975), The Shore of His Life (1984), Love with Privileges (1989) and others appear. The audience well remembers the actor as Ivan Lukic in Boys, Colonel Burno in Captain Nemo, and Abbot Eimer in the Ballad about the valiant knight Ivanhoe.
An intriguing new film with Nikolai Dupak was filmed in 2001. The actor played the role of the dean in the popular TV series Detectives-1.
