Born May 12, 1964.
After graduating from film school, Pierre Morel made his debut in 2000 as a cinematographer in Richard Berry's The Art of Seduction (FR. L'Art (delicat) de la seduction). Later he continued to work as a cinematographer with directors Louis Leterrier, Corey Ewen, Nancy Myers, Alec Keshishen, Luc Besson and Philip Atwell. In 2004, Pierre Morel directed his first film, The Thirteenth District, followed by The Hostage (2008) and then From Paris with Love (2010). In January 2010, it was reported that Morel would direct a new film adaptation of Frank Herbert's "Dune". He was supposed to replace Peter Berg, who left the project in October 2009. In the fall of 2010, Morel also left the project.
Allegations of racism and Islamophobia
Many critics believe Morel is making “openly racist” films that portray Albanians, Arabs and Asians in negative roles. The Telegraph newspaper wrote: "The film 'The Hostage' is a concentration of racist stereotypes about Arabs and Eastern Europeans." He was also criticized for the film "From Paris with Love", which, according to opponents, shows the fact that "every Muslim is a potential terrorist waiting in the wings."
