Was born on October 12, 1939 in Moscow. Graduated from the State Institute of Theater Arts named after A.V. Lunacharsky. Immediately after graduating from GITIS, Yuri Vasiliev came to work at the Moscow Academic Maly Theater. There he worked until the end of his days - almost forty years. He was handsome, he was modest on stage, in life, and in love.
In cinema, Yuri Vasiliev made his debut in 1960, starring in the role of Nikolos in the film directed by Manos Zacharias "Sponge Catchers" .
The real first big success of the actor was the main role in the film by Sergei Gerasimov "Journalist". Vasiliev's hero - a successful young journalist comes to a small industrial town in the Urals to sort out the written complaints of citizen Anikina. Here he has many friends, here he finds love. Outwardly unassuming, but certainly filled with the charm of the Soviet way of life, the pathos of the picture claimed to make it a genuine document of the era, although it rather made it an example of socialist realism. It seemed that an actor with such an appearance should not have been lacking in roles. However, fate was not very kind to Vasiliev. From film to film, he got only supporting roles.
In 1979, Yuri Vasiliev brilliantly played the first lover of the main character of the melodrama "Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears" Katya Tikhomirova. Among other notable works in cinema - the role of the criminal-political drama "Nothing Happened", in the melodramas "Just Don't Leave" and "Ballerina" .
Yuri Nikolaevich was a caring father and for almost forty years was married to one woman - actress Nelly Kornienko. Daughter - Catherine (born 1967) .

On the Moscow evening of June 4, 1999, after dinner, Yuri Nikolayevich lay down on the sofa and turned on the TV. Toward nightfall, the wife looked into the room and found her husband lifeless. Yuri Vasiliev died of a heart attack. In the fall of 1999, he would have turned 60 years old.
The body of Yuri Nikolaevich was cremated in the crematorium of the Nikolo-Arkhangelsk cemetery on June 8, 1999. The urn with the ashes was buried in Moscow at the Donskoy cemetery.
