Since 1950, Mikhail Vasilyev played on the stage of the Blagoveshchensk Regional Drama Theater, and in 1952 he graduated from the theater school at this theater. Then for eight years he worked at the Abakan Regional Drama Theater, Achinsk City Theater, Sterlitamak City Theater.
In 1960, Vasiliev became a member of the staff of the Lenfilm film studio, where he remained until 1987.
Mikhail Vasiliev made his film debut in Sergei Gerasimov's film "Quiet Don", interestingly declaring himself in the role of the Cossack Christoni. Then he created similar images in Kochubei (Pelipenko) and Virgin Soil Upturned (Khoprov).
Since 1960 - the actor has starred a lot, performing mainly small character roles.
Mikhail Vasiliev was buried in Leningrad at the Northern Cemetery.
