People's Artist of the USSR Yuri Vasilyevich Shumsky (Yuri Shomin) is from Tiraspol, in the Kherson province. He was born on November 17 in 1887, in the family of a simple worker. Father died in a fire when Yura was only two years old. The family had seven children, so Shumsky had to work as a laborer from the age of thirteen. He was a loader and baker, accountant and timekeeper. At the same time, Yuri played in an amateur drama club, and the audience really liked the boy's play.
