The Soviet film and stage artist Georgy Svetlani (according to his passport Grigory Danilovich Pinkovsky) was born in 1895 in the Poltava province. His parents were peasants and lived very poorly. When George was 5 years old, his father sent him to the Jung school. For decent behavior and academic success, Svetlana was transferred to an honorary place of service - the yacht of Nicholas II called Shtandart. This ship became a home for the teenager for two years. George sailed on it with the imperial family and spent a lot of time with the young heir to the throne.

Before the revolution, Svetlani played the violin in the orchestra, served as regent, worked as a dance teacher. Since 1918 he began to play on the stage of the Krasnoarmeysky Theater. Becoming a dramatic actor, Georgy changed several theaters in different cities and soon got his first film role.

The debut film with Georgy Svetlani entitled The Artamonovs Case was released in 1941. The film had a complex creation story. The shooting time coincided with the beginning of the war. The film crew had to evacuate, after which they continued to work. From the very beginning of his film career, Georgy was in demand among directors. More often than others, he was invited to act in films by Leonid Gaidai, a close friend of the actor. In March 1980, George died. During his life, he played in more than 50 films.
