Soviet theater and film actor Georgy Gumilevsky was born in May 1902 in Saratov. His father, a postal and telegraph employee, died of tuberculosis when his son was only 9 years old. George's mother died even earlier - just two years after the birth of the boy.
After finishing three classes of the Saratov parochial school, Gumilevsky got a job in commercial management. At first Georgy worked as a courier, then as a clerk. In the post-revolutionary period, when the Komsomol was formed, Georgy became a member of this organization and took up Komsomol work.
At the age of 17, Gumilevsky joined the Red Army, was fired in 1922. Almost immediately Georgy was mobilized and spent the next 3 years as a Red Navy sailor in the city of Baku. In parallel with his service, Gumilevsky attended lessons at the Baku Drama College. In 1925, George received a diploma from this institution and was demobilized at the same time.
The first year after his release from service, Gumilevsky worked in a Baku theater called The Seagull. Here he performed mainly for local and Grozny oil workers. The actor devoted the next 9 years to the Baku Workers' Theater.
In 1940 Gumilevsky moved to Moscow. Here he worked first at the Central Children's Theater, later at the Mossovet Theater, and then got a job at the Mosfilm film studio. He made his film debut in 1942. The first film with Georgy Gumilevsky was called The Actress, in which the artist appeared in a small role of the wounded.
