Ellefsen studied at the National Theater School from 1974 to 1977, after which he worked at the theater for two years.

He made his film debut with a small role in the film "Mama Tumaini" (1986).

Filmed in the films Elling (2001), I am Dina (2002), My Sister's Children 2 (2002), Elling 2: Mommy's Son (2003), Radio Pirates (2007) and others.
