Born on January 27, 1948 in Panevezys into a family of actors. Andrius's grandfather is the choral conductor Mykolas Karka, the parents are the actors Gedeminas Karka and Eugenia Shulgaite. In his youth he acted in films. After graduating from the Lithuanian Conservatory, he and his wife work as teachers at the school.
