Sam Neal was born in September 1947 (Omah). His father was a New Zealand army officer. Mother is English. The family had their own liquor company (Neill & Co.).
Born in Ireland, Neil returned with his parents to New Zealand at the age of 8. He received his secondary education at an Anglican boarding school for boys. He was interested in theater, music, wrote poetry. After school he studied at the University of Canterbury (specialty - English literature). There he first tried himself as an actor.
