Bill Plympton was born on April 30, 1946 in Portland, Oregon to Don and Wilda Plympton. From 1964 to 1968, he attended Portland State University, where he was a member of the Film Society and worked on the publication of the yearbook. In 1968 he transferred to the School of Visual Arts in New York. Plympton's illustrations and comics have been featured in The New York Times, Vogue, Rolling Stone, and many others. His political comic series Plympton, which he began in 1975 at Soho Weekly News, was eventually sold to over twenty publications for simultaneous publication. His distinctive style is easily recognizable.
For many years S. Baumain helped him with stroking and filling. By 2008, Plympton has created 31 short films and 4 full-length cartoons. He also published a comic book called Plympton Sloppy Comics. Usually, Plympton first publishes a story in the graphics to raise money for a movie. Together with other independent filmmakers in New York, Plympton has produced two compilations of animated shorts, Avoid Eye Contact. In 1992, his work appeared on Fox's comedy series The Edge, as well as on MTV in the late 1980s. From 2001 to 2003, he toured with Don Hertsfeldt throughout America with the Don and Bill Show. In 2005, his film Guard Dog was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. That same year, Plympton made a music video for hip-hop singer Kanye West's "Heard 'Em Say". In 2006, Plympton directed the music video for "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Don't Download This Song" .
And earlier, in 1990, he made a video for Peter Himmelman - "245 Days", which served as the basis for the short film Faded Roads, or vice versa ..? In 2008, Parson Brown's music video "Mexican Standoff (Falling Into You)" is animated by Bill. Actress Martha Plympton, "a distant cousin of mine" (as Bill Plympton calls her), co-produced and cast on Hair High. Among those who voiced the film were her father Keith Carradine and her uncle David Carradine. In 2008, the 80-minute film Idiots and Angels was released. It features music from Tom Weits, Moby and the Pink Martini band. Much darker and more mystical than previous works.
