Since the 1980s, he has financed, produced and distributed over 26 films. He began his Broadway career as a co-producer on Marsha Norman's Goodnight Mom with Katie Bates. He then served as assistant producer on David Mamet's production of American Bison with Al Pacino and Beth Henley's play The Wake of Jamie Foster, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Crimes of the Heart for which the author received a Pulitzer Prize.
The Broadway experience led Lancaster to his debut feature film, Goodnight Mom (1986) .
Anne Bancroft and Cece Spacek won a Golden Globe Award for the cinematic adaptation of Norman's classic play. Lancaster is producing his next HBO project, Robert Altman's television drama Laundry, starring Carol Barnett and Amy Madigan, starring Carol Barnett and Amy Madigan.
1990 David Lancaster Productions opens. The main goals of the organizations are called the production of high quality television and art projects. Among them is Wes Craven's The Pack, an action thriller with elements of a horror film starring Michelle Rodriguez, Oliver Hudson and Taryn Manning; and the fantasy thriller The Invisible Man 2, starring Christian Slater. Among others, it is worth noting the characteristic drama "Love in the Rush" with John Travolta and Scarlett Johansson and the thriller based on the novel by Stephen King "Riding the Bullet". The main roles in the latter were shared by David Arquette, Jonathan Jackson, Erica Christensen, Cliff Robertson and Barbara Hershey.
