Tom Waits was born on December 7, 1949 in a family of ordinary school teachers. After the divorce of his parents, he and his mother often changed their place of residence. In 1965, while Tom was still in high school in Chula Vista, he began taking rhythm and blues music lessons. At the same time he takes part in The Systems group. Five years later, Tom starts working at a San Diego nightclub as a doorman. It was thanks to this work that he could listen for hours for free to various performers who came to this club. Later he had the good fortune to perform on this stage himself with his own paid concert. From that time on, Tom Waits began to invent his own musical style.
After serving in the US Coast Guard, Tom returns to Los Angeles and gets a job at a nightclub. It was in this club that young performers lined up just for the opportunity to give their concert. There he meets a producer who helps him create a couple of studio demos of his songs. Since 1973, Tom Waits has begun a really turning point in his career. It is important to note that Tom managed not only to prove himself beautifully in music, he also managed to star in various films. So, in 1978, the first film with Tom Waits, Paradise Alley, was released. Besides acting, he created the music for this film.
