Born March 27, 1966, Paris - French singer-songwriter and pianist.
Studied music at the University of Boston and while traveling through the West Indies. Returning to Paris, he created his own musical style, inspired by French cabaret chanson, as well as American jazz and blues. In 1988 he began performing in Parisian clubs, with the accompaniment of bassist Brad Scott and drummer Paul Jyoti. In 1990, he released his debut album Arthur H, combining rhythmic experiments and elements of ball musette (French musical style of the 19th century), as well as a vocal style comparable to that of Tom Waits. He toured France and Japan, after which he released his second album Bachibouzouk, on which saxophonist John Hendelsmann joined Scott and Giotti. During the tour in support of Bachibouzouk, Brazilian percussionist Edmundo Corneiro joined his band for a time. At the end of the performances, a live album En chair et en os and a concert film directed by Ken Izhlin were released. After that, Ash took a break from musical activity due to the birth of his daughter. In 1996 he released his third studio recording Trouble-Fete, celebrating the influence of African, Oriental and Gypsy music. A year later, he recorded a live album Fete Trouble and went to concerts in the United States. The tour ended in triumph in 1998 with a performance in Los Angeles, during which Arthur married his touring group member Alexandra on stage. Since 2000, he began to actively perform in Asia, Italy and Canada, with the support of a touring group consisting of bassist Brad Scott, guitarist Nicolas Repack and drummer Lauren Robin. He released his fourth album, Pour Madame X, and another live recording, Piano Solo, consisting mainly of new interpretations of his early songs. On the occasion of Show Time's release he gave an exclusive concert on June 26 in Paris. In 2003 he released his fifth album, Negresse Blanche. He planned to tour China, but the Chinese authorities did not give him permission to play concerts and Ash began work on the sixth album, Adieu Tristesse, which became his most commercially successful work. Adieu Tristesse included several duets, including with his father Jacques Izhlin and Arthur's old friend Mathieu Shedid, known under the pseudonym -M-.
He toured France, Poland, Lebanon and Canada, after which he released his fourth live album Show Time. In 2008, he organized a special audio-visual project of the Louvre "Duos ephemeres" and prepared the seventh studio album L'Homme du Monde, which sounds more in the style of traditional rock than the musician's jazz-blues experiments. Recording won the Victoire de la Musique award. Just two years later, he released a double album Mystic Rumba, which includes the already famous repertoire of Asch in a new performance. The minimalist atmosphere of Mystic Rumba allowed to hear new sides of the deep voice of the performer and to reveal the previously unnoticed nuances of his poetry. Already in 2011, he assembled a new lineup of his group, which included guitarist Joseph Shedid (brother of -M-), pianist Vincent Taurell, as well as Aymeric Weistrich and Alexander Angelov, who are in charge of the rhythm section. He released the ninth album Baba Love, a year later - the tenth, entitled L'Or Noir, a year later - the eleventh, entitled L'Or d'Eros.
