Studied at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory in San Francisco, after which he entered the University of California, Los Angeles, graduating in 1977
Lucesi began his career at William Morris as an agent representing actors such as Susan Sarandon, Kevin Costner, Michelle Pfeiffer and John Malkovich.
He made his film debut as a producer of the film "Jennifer 8" (1992) .
He was Vice President of Production at TriStar Pictures before becoming President of Paramount Pictures. After working at Paramount Pictures, Lucesi founded Gary Lucchesi Productions, which produced the Academy Award-nominated film Primal Fear (1996). In 1997, he was nominated for an Emmy for the television film Gotti (1996) .
