She graduated from high school in 1980, where she took an active part in school productions.
She began acting in films in the late 1970s. In 1999 she made her debut as a filmmaker, filming one of the episodes of the television series "Silk Nets", in which she herself starred, playing Cassandra during 1996-1999
On September 7, 1985, Janet married Karl Gunn, but they later divorced.
At the moment, the actress is married for the second time. Her husband is Derek Norton, in 2002 they had a son. The family currently lives in the western part of Beverly Hills (California, USA).
