Janet McTeer was born on August 5, 1961 in the city of Newcastle, located on the north-east coast of Great Britain. She spent her childhood in York. After graduating from high school for girls, Janet was enrolled in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and began a career in theater. The debut of the actress on television took place in 1985. Then McTeer began to appear regularly in films and television series.
To date, Janet has starred in more than fifty films. Among them are such as Wuthering Heights, Sense and Sensibility, Family Portrait, The Island, The King Is Alive, The Land of the Tides, As You Like It. In 1999, a film was released with Janet McTeer Tumbleweed, for her role in which she was awarded the Golden Globe and nominated for the annual Oscar. For the second time, the actress was nominated for the prestigious film awards after the movie The Mysterious Albert Nobbs, in which the actress played the role of Hubert Page. In 2012, she portrayed Mrs. Daly in the remake film Woman in Black. And in 2013, McTeer played the role of Jacquette of Luxembourg in the historical series The White Queen, which tells about the times of the wars of the Scarlet and White Rose. Thanks to this series, Janet was again nominated for the American Golden Globe Award.
One of Janet's most famous theatrical roles was played by her in 1996, in Ibsen's play Doll House. A year later, this performance appeared on Broadway and brought the actress a Tony Award. In 2008, McTeer was awarded the title of Fellow of the Order of the British Empire for her acting achievements.
