Born 19 January 1931, Stolp, Pomerania - German actor.
When Otto was 14, his parents committed suicide due to propaganda fueled panic ahead of the Russian attack on Berlin. After their death, Otto and his brother went to work for the Russian soldiers themselves - to look after the horses.
In 1947-1949, Otto attended drama school in Schwerin. Then he first played in Neustrelitz, Stralsund, Rostock and Erfurt. In 1956, Wolfgang Langhoff accepted him at the Deutsche Teatr in Berlin.
He worked as a voice actor. After the death of Gert Hoffmann, Otto became the main German voice for Paul Newman. Also voiced by Christopher Lee, Michael Gambon, Maximilian Schell. Otto Mellis (credited as Otto Melies) played in the film "Seventeen Moments of Spring" the role of Helmut Kolder - a mobilized German front-line soldier who shot the Gestapo officers after seeing how they interrogated the radio operator Kat, taking her baby out to the cold balcony. He also voiced Stirlitz for the screening of the film in the GDR.
