Otto Grunmundl was an Austrian cabaret artist, popular actor and writer. Otto's father, a Jew of Hungarian origin, moved to Tyrol at the beginning of the 20th century and founded a textile shop here with his brother in 1907 (the Nazis expropriated in 1938). Otto's mother Christina was born in Lower Austria and came to Tyrol as a domestic servant. Otto was the third of the couple's four children.
Otto studied electrical engineering and worked as a textile trader until the mid-1960s.
Otto Grunmundl was a master of supreme nonsense, his irrational humor.
He was one of the founders of the Liechtenstein PEN Club. His estate is at the Brenner Research Institute Archives.
