August 7, 1902 - September 1, 1981 - American actress.
Her father was a military man, and therefore the Gatley family moved from place to place, until they settled in New York, where Dorothy entered the women's college Brian Mauer. Shortly after graduating from college, Dorothy began her acting career and made her Broadway debut in 1921. She made her film debut in 1929 in the film "Paris Connected" with Frederic March in the title role. A year later, Dorothy, who took the pseudonym Anne Harding, was nominated for an Oscar for her role in the film "Vacation". Early in her film career, Harding worked primarily at Pathe, which was later absorbed by RKO, where she starred with such stars as Gary Cooper, Leslie Howard and Myrna Loy. Together with Helen Twelwtries and Constance Bennett, she formed a trio of actresses specializing in melodrama. In 1926, Anne Harding married actor Harry Bannister, but after six years of marriage, the couple divorced. From this marriage, the actress left a daughter, Jane (1928-2005) .
In the early 1930s, at the height of her popularity, Anne appeared in such films as Devotion (1931), Animal Kingdom (1932), Prestige (1932) and Peter Ibbetson (1935). In the second half of the 1930s, films with her participation became less popular and received a rather warm welcome from both viewers and critics. Ultimately, in 1937, Harding married the conductor and composer Werner Janssen and left the cinema. Five years later, she returned to the screens, appearing in 1942 in the film "Eyes in the Night", and a year later she played the role of Marjorie Davis in the military propaganda film "Mission to Moscow" .
In the early 1960s, after a thirty-year absence, Hardin reappeared on Broadway, starring in two unsuccessful productions. At the same time, she performed small roles in several television series, ending with this in 1965 our career, performing her last role in the series "Ben Casey" .
Anne Hardin died on September 1, 1981 at the age of 79 in a suburb of Los Angeles. She was cremated, and her ashes were buried in Hollywood Hills Cemetery. Ann Hardin has been honored with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contributions to film and television.
