Royal Russell School at Croydon and School of Educational Arts (The Arts Educational Schools), in eng. Chiswick, London.
Clones was one of the co-stars of the 2004 ITV romantic comedy-drama William and Mary (TV series), which ran for three episodes, starring Julie Graham. Clones worked with Julie Graham previously on the set of Dirty Tricks (2000) .
His lead role on the ITV sitcom Dr. Martin (Doc Martin) since 2004 marked a successful change of direction for Clones. In 2005, his role as a brilliant surgeon, forced to retrain as a general practitioner due to his hemophobia, earned him the Most Popular Actor nomination at the National Television Awards. The show is produced for ITV by the Buffalo Pictures campaign and, in the production of the company, he works in partnership with his wife Phillipa Braithwaite. In the media at the launch of the third season of "Dr. Martin" in September 2007, Clunes announced that since ITV has not yet decided on the launch of the fourth season, he plans to take a break from work for a year to relax and restore his passion for playing on stage, away from the camera, and plans to grow his hair again as he "misses his curls." The last episode of season 3 attracted nearly 10 million viewers, or 40% of the audience share. There was, however, a mixed reaction from Season 3 fans regarding the outcome. In an interview in November 2007 on ITV GMTV, he promised that there would be a fourth season, but not one year (2009). The fourth season of "Dr. Martin" aired in 2009 and the fifth season began airing in September 2011.
Since 24 April 2009, Clunes has starred Reggie Perrin on BBC One television, a remake of the classic 1970s British sitcom The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. In the same year, he appeared in part 3 of the ITV series Islands of Britain, in which he traveled to several of the country's lesser-known islands. Clones was a guest guest on the 2010 fictional comedy show Have I Got News for You. In 2011, Clones voiced the mischievous dog Dudley in the short film Me or the Dog, starring Edward Hogg and director Abner Pastoll. The short film is about a man who thinks that his dog is talking to him, only to realize that he actually suffers from schizophrenia. In 2012, Clunes took part in the dubbing of the animated film "Riding a Broomstick" based on the book by Julia Donaldson, where he also got the role of Dog.
