October 18, 1913 - November 15, 1993 - American actress.
She was born in Cincinnati as the only child in the family of English teacher Emerson Venable and his wife Dolores. After graduation, she studied at Vassar College in New York State, and then entered the University of Cincinnati. Her acting career began while still at school, where Venable starred in the productions of Romeo and Juliet and As You Like It. As a university student, she participated in Walter Hampden's touring plays Cyrano de Borgerac and Hamlet .
While touring Los Angeles, she was offered several movie offers, and in 1932 she was signed to Paramount Pictures. Over the next ten years of her film career, the actress starred in 23 films, including Death Takes the Day (1934), The Little Colonel (1935) and Alice Adams (1935), and also became a model of a woman with a torch in her hand for the Columbia Pictures logo. In 1940, Venable voiced the Blue Fairy in the Walt Disney cartoon Pinocchio .
In 1934, on the set of one of the films, she met the cameraman Hal More, whom she married in the same year. The couple had two daughters, Dolores and Rosalia. In 1943, Venable retired from cinema, devoting herself to family and raising children. She later graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles, where she later began teaching a course in classical Greek plays. Evelyn Venable died in 1993 of cancer at the age of 80 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Her contributions to the American film industry are starred on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
