Alice Fay - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips, actress.
May 5, 1915, New York - May 9, 1998, Rancho Mirage - American actress and singer
Born in New York on May 5, 1915, the son of police officer Charlie Lapper and his wife, Alice. Her career began as a choir performer in vaudeville. She also tried to appear on the Siegfeld Frenzy, but was not recruited due to her young age. In 1931, Alice Fay made her Broadway debut in The Scandals, changing her last name from Lappert to Faye. After that, she worked for two years on the radio in the program "Fleischmann Hour", where she met her future husband Phil Harris, whom she married in 1940. Before that, she had already been married once - to the actor and singer Tony Martin (1937-1940) .
Her film debut took place in 1934 after actress Lillian Harvey turned down the lead role in the film adaptation of the play "Scandals". In the film, she played the role of Mona Vale, which brought her great popularity and soon the famous producer of the Fox studio Darryl F. Zanuck became her protege. This was followed by new successful film roles, where Fay acted not only as an actress, but also as a singer. Some of the most famous subsequent films with Alice Fay's participation were In Old Chicago (1937), Alexander's Ragtime Band (1938) and That Night in Rio (1941). Her career continued to develop successfully until 1944, when the film "Fallen Angel" was released. Faye was supposed to have a fairly large role there, but in the end Darryl F. Zanuck cut the episodes with her and devoted most of the screen time to the aspiring actress Linda Darnell. Alice Faye did not like this very much and in the same year she left Fox Studios. Later, Alice returned to radio, where, together with her husband Phil Haris, she became the host of a music program. After 1945, Fay did not act in films for 17 years, only appearing on the screen in 1962 in a small role in the film "State Fair". In 1974, Alice appeared on Broadway in the musical Good News. She was also a spokeswoman for the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, touting the virtues of being active in adulthood. Her marriage to Harris lasted until his death in 1995, and she herself died three years after that on May 9, 1998 from stomach cancer at the age of 83 in the California city of Rancho Mirage. For her contribution to the film industry, Alice Faye was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6922 Hollywood Boulevard.
