October 26, 1914 - March 1, 1984 - American film actor. He entered the history of cinema as the first child movie star. From an early age he went on stage with his father and starred in silent films. Collaborated with Charlie Chaplin. Jackie's rise to fame began with the role of a little boy in the legendary film "The Kid" (1921), after which interest in him as an actor grew every year. In the early 1920s, Jackie was one of the most sought-after, highly paid and recognizable actors in Hollywood, although at that time he was not even ten years old. The pinnacle of success for Jackie was 1923, when his parents signed a record-breaking contract for one and a half million dollars with the film studio "Metro Pictures". To be able to freely dispose of this money, Jackie's parents issued a written permission for this for the first time in the history of the American legal system. Jackie Coogan was also one of the first film brands and movie idols in Hollywood, whose name and image were successfully used to advertise and increase sales of various goods: toys, magazines and books, food, clothing, and more; and also for charitable purposes. Little Jackie was such an important celebrity that other famous people came to see him themselves. Hundreds of thousands of fans copied his hairstyle, demeanor, clothes. In the 1930s, interest in the actor began to plummet. By this time, his total income from filming in films amounted to more than two million dollars. As a result of his parents' investment of this money, this amount was almost doubled, and Jackie was recognized as one of the youngest millionaires in California history. However, with the same success, his parents squandered almost all of this money during the Great Depression, not wanting to acknowledge the end of his career as a high-paid actor, and continuing to live in grand style. Having reached the age of majority, Jackie found himself without a job and a livelihood. He demanded that his parents return the money he earned, but was refused and went to court. However, according to the laws of that time, Jackie was not entitled to the money he earned in childhood, as a result of which he was able to return only a small part of it. Jackie's situation prompted a complete overhaul of the current situation regarding the exploitation of child labor in cinema and other areas of life. California Child Actor's Bill has been augmented in many ways, most notably the creation of a new California Child Actor's Bill. During World War II, Jackie served in the army as a volunteer pilot training instructor in Burma. In 1944, he took part in a dangerous reconnaissance operation, for which he was later awarded a medal. He completed his military service in 1945 with the rank of lieutenant. After military service, he returned to cinema and starred in minor roles, mainly in television series and in low-budget films. Many years later, in 1964, he was reminded of himself again thanks to his role as Uncle Fester in the popular TV series of the 1960s The Addams Family, but he never managed to return to his former popularity. Jackie died on March 1, 1984 at the age of 69 from a heart attack. Buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California.
