Born into a family of police officers, when her parents divorced, together with her older sister Elizabeth remained with her father and his second wife.
Already at school she participated in theatrical performances, in 1937, after auditioning on Broadway, she got the role of Laurie Lee in the comedy "Straw Hat", which she played for five years. She combined her work in the theater with performances as a model at fashion shows.
In 1945 she signed a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, plays in several films, but often her name is not even in the credits. Since the 1950s. begins to actively work on television.
