Born April 12, 1946, Youngstown, Ohio is an American actor.

O'Neill initially tried many professions, first Ed was a steelworker like his father, then he worked as a bartender and salesman of used cars. While attending Youngstown State University College, Ed had time to study art, especially theater, and history at Ohio University College. Ed loved sports and initially chose to play college football for Ohio University and Youngstown University teams. In 1969, O'Neill was even taken on screening at the Pittsburgh Steelers, but Ed was not taken on the team. After such a disappointing experience, Ed decided to return to the acting profession, in Youngstown, O'Neill took part in an audition for an acting agency. After getting a minor role, he decided to return to Youngstown University. During that time, Ed constantly played at the local theater, and also taught at Ursuline High School.

Ed also has a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

In 1977, Ed decided to finally devote his life to the acting profession. He moved to New York and lived at the Imperial Hotel on 79th Street for quite some time. He got a job as an assistant, which he calls "the worst job in the world," and began auditioning for local theaters. O'Neill's first acting breakthrough came in 1979 when he was cast as the lead in the Broadway musical Knockout. In 1972, Ed landed a cameo role in the thriller Deliverance; O'Neill had only one line in the film. In 1980, Ed starred in the William Friedkin film The Wanted, starring Al Pacino.

Ed once played a role in the TV series Mice and Men, after which he was offered to play in the comedy television series Married ... with Children. Since the first episode of "Married ... with Children" in 1987, Ed has consistently remained the lead actor on this comedy series. From 1987 to 1997, 262 episodes were filmed. The series has been nominated 8 times for an Emmy and 7 times for a Golden Globe.
