Born April 23, 1967, Akron, Ohio - American actress, director, and screenwriter.
Her father worked as an insurance agent, then became the owner of a pastry shop, her mother is a housewife. Melina is the youngest of three sisters. At an early age, she became interested in musicals, at the age of eight she made her debut in the production of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" on the stage of the local public theater. Kanakaredes graduated from Firestone High School in Akron in 1985, after which she studied music, dance and theater briefly at Ohio State University, and later transferred to Point Park College in Pittsburgh. During her studies, she starred in commercials and participated in stage productions.
In 1989, Canakaredes graduated from college with a BA in Theater Arts and moved to New York, where she began acting. In 1991, Melina began acting in the oldest American soap opera "Guiding Light", before her retirement from the television series in 1995, she was nominated twice for Daytime Emmy Awards for Best Young Actress and Best Supporting Actress. In 1992, Melina married culinary specialist Peter Constantinadez, whom she met at Ohio University.
In the period from 1995 to 1998, Canakaredes played cameo roles in the series "Strict South", "New York Police", "Prison Oz", "Practice", "Leaving Los Angeles", in 1996 she played a small role in the film The Long Kiss Goodnight starring Gina Davis and Samuel L. Jackson.
For five seasons, from 1999 to 2002, Canakaredes was the lead actress on the drama television series Providence. She played the role of plastic surgeon Sidney Hansen, tired of the rich life in Beverly Hills and returning to her family in her hometown of Providence. In 2000, Melina had a daughter, Zoe. In 2001, she starred in the film "15 Minutes" in the role of the girl of the hero Robert De Niro, was also one of the contenders for the main role in the acclaimed comedy "My Big Greek Wedding" (2002), but had to abandon her because of the second pregnancy. In 2003, Canakaredes had a second daughter, Karina Eleni.
