After leaving school, he went to study as an actor in Moscow. In 1971 he graduated from the colloquial genre department of the Moscow Variety and Circus School, worked in the orchestra under the direction of Utyosov, from 1972 - in the Moscow Theater of Miniatures. At the festival at the Moscow Comedy Theater, he received an award as the best young actor.
In the USSR, he was known for his role in the television series "Big Change" (role: red-haired and disheveled student, sitting at the first desk next to Avdotin).
In 1976 he emigrated from the USSR to the USA, where he continued his acting career in Hollywood and on television. Became a United States citizen on April 1, 1985. He has been married to Marina Baskin since 1995. They have one child, a daughter named Michelle Baskin.
He starred in such films as "Airplane of the President", "2010", "Spider-Man 2", "Transformers 3: The Dark Side of the Moon" .
For many years he was friends with Savely Kramarov, who emigrated from the USSR in the early 1980s and came to the United States at the invitation of Baskin. Baskin was also friends with Robin Williams, their relationship developed in the process of joint work on the film "Moscow on the Hudson".
