Born August 20, 1956 - American theater and film actress.
She studied at Rochelle High School, where she was an excellent student, sang in the choir and played the cello. Then at the University of Northern Illinois at Macomb, which she graduated in 1976, and then at the University of Eastern Illinois. In 1977 she entered the theater company "Steppenwolf" and began to play on the stage.
The actress began her acting career in the famous Chicago troupe "Steppenwolf Theater Company" under the direction of John Malkovich. In the early 80s, she began acting in the theater, as well as acting in low-budget TV series. Her film debut was a small supporting role in the film "Compromising Poses". In 1988, she appeared on Broadway in the play "Burn This" by Lanford Wilson, for which she received a Tony Award. She rarely appeared in films, and none of the roles made her a star, but that all changed in 1995 after Oliver Stone's film "Nixon", where Joan played the president's wife. This role brought the actress well-deserved fame, she was nominated for an Oscar and an award from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
Joan Allen played CIA Deputy Director Pamela Landy in The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum and The Bourne Evolution .
Starred in Paul W.S. Anderson's new film, Death Race, which premiered in 2008.
In 2015, Allen was cast as the lead on the ABC series Family.
