She graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1974.
Mel Harris has appeared in over sixty films and TV shows throughout her career. She is best known for her role in the television series Thirty-something (1987-1991), for which she received critical acclaim and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Series - Drama in 1990 year. In 1989, Harper's Bazaar magazine included her in the list of "America's 10 Most Beautiful Women." On the big screen, she starred as the female lead in the commercially successful K-9 starring James Belushi, and has also appeared in a number of lesser-known projects. She returned to television in 1996 with the lead role on Someone's Right, which was canceled after two seasons. Later in her career, she appeared in the series The West Wing and House Doctor, and also starred in several independent films.
Mel Harris has been married five times and has two children from different marriages.
