It was named after one of the sons of the prophet Isaiah in the Bible. Raised as a Christian, he later converted to Islam, and became a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Islam, and changed his last name from Gilmore to Ali. Ali graduated from St. Mary's College of California in 1996 with a degree in media.
He planned to become a basketball player, but changed his mind. Ali began to show interest in acting after playing in a play. Later he joined the California Shakespeare Theater.
