Born August 17, 1947, Rosenheim, Bavaria, Germany - American economist, writer and journalist.

Her father, Ruzi Nazarruen during the Great Patriotic War was captured by the Germans and joined the Uzbek SS Legion, in the 1950s he joined the CIA. In 1951, Zulfiya's family emigrated to the United States, where her name was changed into English - Sylvia. In 1960, she and her parents moved to the Turkish capital Ankara. In 1970 she received her BA in Literature from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Green County, Ohio. In 1976 she received her master's degree in economics from New York University.

In 1998, Nazar published a biographical book “A Beautiful Mind. The Life of Mathematical Genius and Nobel Laureate John Nash "(A Beautiful Mind. The Life of Mathematical Genius and Nobel Laureate John Nash), dedicated to the fate of John Forbes Nash Jr., the famous American mathematician, Nobel Prize winner in economics 1994, and his wife. The book almost immediately became a bestseller and has been translated into 30 languages. Professionals also highly appreciated it. Also in 1998, the book received the National Book Critics' Award for Best Biography, and was also nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.

In 2001, based on the book, director R. Howard filmed the film A Beautiful Mind.

In 2011, Nazar published her second book, Grand Pursuit: The Story of Economic Genius. The book won the Los Angeles Times Book Award for Science and Technology.
