Born in Detroit, the son of an American and an immigrant from Ghana, the daughter of a famous political leader in his native country. The future actor graduated from the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy in 2002 and studied the basics of acting at Wayne State University. As a teenager, Richardson played on stage in Detroit and Chicago, including Chicago's Second City Theater, and was nominated for Best Theater Actor of the Year for his role in South Side of Heaven in 2011.
The first known projects with the participation of Richardson were the comedy series "Office" and "New Girl", in which he played secondary roles. The actor became famous for the sitcom "Vice President", in which he plays the role of Richard Splett. Among the most recent famous works by Richardson stand out comedies "Ghostbusters" and "Wedding Frenzy", released in screens in 2016.
In 2015, Sam wrote the screenplay for the television movie Detroit.
