Olivia graduated from Hawthorne High School in California in 1965. Later she got a job as a secretary at the A&M Records, where in 1974 she met George Harrison, who at that time had a contract with this company. In the same year, she took part in the recording of the album Dark Horse as a backing vocalist.

In 1978, after Harrison officially divorced his first wife, Patti Boyd, and had a son, Dhani, to Olivia, the couple married in Henley-on-Thames, near Harrison's Friar Park estate. When Olivia and George attended Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach's wedding three years later, it was noticed that Olivia was not wearing an engagement ring. In 2002, in memory of her husband, Olivia produced the Concert for George. The concert was held at London's Royal Albert Hall and was attended by Eric Clapton, Jeff Lynn, Paul McCartney, Tom Petty, Billy Preston, Ravi Shankar, Ringo Starr, Tom Hanks, British comic group "Monty Python" and many others. Olivia's son Dhani Harrison played acoustic guitar in almost all numbers of the concert. In 2005, Olivia received a Grammy Award for Music Video Producer in the Best Full Length Music Video category.
On June 1, 2009, Olivia joined Yoko Ono, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr in a press conference hosted by Microsoft to celebrate the launch of the new music video game, The Beatles: Rock Band.
