Born October 19, 1951 is an American actress and singer who has achieved her greatest success through her performances in Broadway musicals.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Golden achieved critical acclaim as the lead singer of the punk rock band The Shirts in the 1970s. The group released three commercially disastrous albums, and Golden began performing solo in the 1980s, although occasionally reuniting at The Shirts.
In 1977, Golden made her Broadway debut in the musical Hair, and two years later reprized her role in the movie of the same name. The role in the film became her only significant appearance on the big screen, after which she returned to the stage and only occasionally took on small roles in the cinema. On television, she meanwhile had notable roles in Miami Police (1985-86) and Gay Company (1989-92), and also appeared in Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. In 2013, Golden took on the supporting role of the inmate Norma Romano on the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black.
