Born 1975, Bracknell, Berkshire, England, UK - British producer, director and screenwriter.

Studied philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford University before committing to study at the National School of Film and Television in London.

Since 2001, he has directed short films and cartoons. For example, "Applause" and "The Most Handsome Man in the World," for which he was nominated for Best Short Film at the 2003 BAFTA Awards. Welshman later worked on several films, but they did not have significant success.

In 2007, Hugh Welshman worked on the visual effects for Life in Pink.

Finally, in 2008, he won an Oscar for the animated short Peter and the Wolf (director: Susie Templeton), based on the music of the same name by Sergei Prokofiev.

2011 saw the release of Fairy Land, a cartoon produced by Welchman and his Breakthru Films. The main role in it was voiced by the famous actress Heather Graham.

In 2017, Welshman and his wife Dorota Kobela created a truly unique project - the world's first animated feature film entirely painted in oil paints on canvas "With Love, Vincent", dedicated to the last weeks of Vincent Van Gogh's life. The development was funded by the Polish Film Institute, and the retraining of professional painters into animation artists was partially funded through the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform.
